FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A. Basic Product Related Questions

1. Why buy a slipcover?
You should buy a slipcover if

*You don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new piece of furniture
*You want a new look today, not six weeks from now
*You want to freshen up your living room
*You have kids with muddy shoes or pets that shed
*You want your living room to be inviting when company comes over
*You yearn for a professional decorator look but not at designer prices
*You want to make your mauve chair and your green sofa look good together
*You bought a brand new white sofa and you just had a baby
*You've moved and your couch doesn't go with your new decor
*You just got to college and the sofa in your lounge is lime green plastic
*Your home office looks more like a home than an office
*Your vacation rental comes with questionable furniture
*Decorate for the holidays.
*It's Spring! Or Fall! Or Summer! Or Winter!

2. Why shouldn't I just make my own slipcover?
Making your own slipcovers can be costly and time-consuming. One customer told us she reserved a three-day weekend to make her own slipcover. She finished sixteen days later and it never fit properly! Sure Fit's slipcovers are made with over 8 yards of fabric and sewn by experts. The cost of fabric and the time it would take for you to sew your own cover make it a more expensive proposition than buying ready-mades. Plus, our fabric ranges from 54" to 122" in width (as compared to 45"-60" fabric in stores) so there are very few seams. Our slipcover fabric is also tested for durability, fading and shrinkage, so you can be sure of what you are getting. With all the new up to date patterns available to you with Sure Fit's slipcovers, they give you many quick options in a timely manner.

3. What about custom covers or reupholstery?
Sure Fit Slipcovers offer the most value for your money. Custom Slipcovers offer great fit, but they take weeks to make and cost hundreds of dollars in fabric and labor. Reupholstery costs even more and you must be without your furniture for weeks. New furniture takes an average of 8-10 weeks to deliver and can set you back hundreds, even thousands of dollars. Compare and save big.

4. How do ready-made slipcovers work exactly?
Sure Fit slipcovers are "semi-fitted." They have a loosely constructed shape (meaning you can actually see where the arms go) and are one simple piece (body and skirt are attached). There are three "one size fits most" sizes: chair, loveseat and sofa. You just pull the cover over your furniture and follow the illustrated instructions for proper styling. Strategically placed elastic (where the skirt is sewn on) helps the cover contour to your furniture. Our patented design features an inner row of elastic that is completely hidden from view under your seat cushion(s) and helps keep your cover in place. We believe we have the best design on the market!

5. Do these covers really stay in place?
Yes. They stay on your furniture until you decide to take them off. But they are NOT reupholstery or custom-fitted covers. The fabric on the seat cushions needs to be adjusted after several seatings. You will want to straighten your slipcover out a little every day, just as you would straighten your bed covers each morning. You do not have to take your slipcover off... just retuck and smooth the fabric.

6. Why are the prices different?
Prices vary according to size (Chair, Loveseat or Sofa) and fabric weight. In general, the heavier the fabric, the more expensive the slipcover is.

7. Why buy from Sure Fit?
Were the slipcover experts. Our patented one-piece slipcover design is the best available anywhere hands down. And, we design and create every slipcover we sell. Were so confident in our products, we back each and every purchase with our 100% GUARANTEE. We test and retest every product for durability, color fastness and 100% machine washability.

8. What other products does Sure Fit make?

9. Do you make separate seat covers?

10. How do I choose a recliner style cover?

The Medium Recliner fits the Strato-lounger, La-Z-Boy and Lane chairs measuring up to 82" around back with right-side handle and continuous footrest. The Large Recliner fits a chair that measures up to 88" around its back with right-side handle, continuous footrest and extra-wide seat.

B. Fabric Questions

1. What is the difference between the various slipcover fabrics?
Sure Fit's design team uses the most popular fabrics and patterns from the upholstery market. All of our fabrics are machine washable and pass through rigorous quality control procedures. Today, with new fiber technology, slipcover fabrics are more luxurious and durable than ever! Chenille slipcovers are heavyweight, soft to the touch, and lavishly textured. 100% Cotton covers are very popular since cotton is a wonderful year-round fabric that is naturally soft, breathable, and retains color beautifully. Whether you lean towards more formal fabrics such as damask, or more casual fabrics such as denim or duck, you can rest assured that Sure Fit slipcover fabrics look and feel expensive but are, in fact, very reasonably priced. We pride ourselves on finding great value and fashion for our customers.

2. How durable are these slipcovers?
All of our fabrics must undergo rigorous quality tests in our in-house laboratory before being introduced to the line. We lose many wonderful patterns each year because they do not meet the following standards:

*Sandpaper Abrasion Test - tests for wearability
*Shrinkage - we don't allow much shrinkage to get the best fit wash after wash
*Crocking - Tests for colorfastness so color doesn't come off on your furniture
*Ball Burst Test (50 lbs. of pressure) - tests for puncture resistance

Our covers can be washed again and again with minimal shrinkage and fading. There are several fabrics (Damask and Suede) which actually look better after washing! Many customers ask what our most durable fabric is (the one that will stand up to heavy dogs or a house full of teenagers.) Our 100% Cotton Duck and Performance Twill slipcovers are the most durable covers in the collection.

3. Are fabric blends comfortable?
Yes. Advances in technology, especially in microfibers, have created beautiful, soft, luxurious fabrics that look and feel great. Blends are used to make fabric stronger to withstand lots of wear and multiple washings. Most covers become softer after just one washing.

4. Can I mix and match different fabrics?
Yes. In fact, one rarely sees the same fabric all around a living room. Mixing patterns and textures is a wonderful way to get a professional decorator look in your living room. Sure Fit's slipcover collection is designed to make mixing and matching easy. We show you our favorite combinations in color photographs throughout the site. If you're not sure what goes with what, contact Customer Service or call toll-free 1-888-754-7166 and they'll help you decide or send you swatches so you can see for yourself.

5. How do I choose the right slipcover?
There are no hard and fast rules but we do offer some helpful hints. First, if you are happy with your current dcor and simply want to cover your furniture, then consider choosing color first. Pick something that coordinates with your existing rugs, drapes, and wall color. If you're having difficulty, flip through some decorating magazines or books to see if you can find any rooms that look similar to yours. Or contact Customer Service for help. Many people opt for solid color slipcovers because they are so easy to decorate with. We recommend sticking with a solid color slipcover if you have a patterned rug for example. If you are looking to change your whole room, look through our catalog and see what appeals to you. Many customers choose neutral colors for a clean, contemporary look. We have a slipcover for almost every style and our prices are so good, you might even consider getting more than one cover!

6. What colors and patterns are available?
Solid color fabrics are easy to decorate with. Our collection features popular choices such as ivory, blue, khaki, moss, and sage green, as well as the latest fashion colors such as plum, garnet, and persimmon. You'll also find everything from yellow to burgundy to indigo. Looking for patterns? Choose from sporty stripes, to classic plaids, colorful florals, and more. To shop for slipcovers by color or by pattern, go to our online catalog.

7. Can I get a swatch?
Of course. We do not charge for swatches, but we do ask that you pay a $3 shipping and handling fee for up to 5 swatches which is refundable if you make a purchase. View our Swatch collection.

8. How do I care for my slipcover?
Most of Sure Fit slipcovers are completely machine washable. Wash them in cold water, gentle cycle. Do not use bleach. Depending on fabric, line dry or tumble dry on low setting. In other words, do not be afraid of whites, removing dirt and stains from these slipcovers is simple and easy. In fact, some fabrics get better with washing the textures on a damask fabric, for example, puff up after washing, making the pattern appear more distinguished and luxurious. Remember, no ironing or dry cleaning needed! Just pull the cover out of the dryer once the cycle is complete and immediately place it on the furniture to avoid wrinkles. If your cover gets wrinkled in storage, simply toss it in the dryer on low heat with a wet washcloth for ten minutes to remove the wrinkles. Washing instructions come with every cover.

9. Will any light colored patterns cover dark furniture?
Our Matelasse will cover dark patterns and solids without a problem. Any other light colored slipcover may need a white sheet put on your furniture before the cover is placed on it.

10. Do you offer neutral colored patterns?
We offer several patterns in neutral colors. Matelasse is the thickest and the best for covering patterned and dark colored sofas. For more patterns, view our slipcover products.

11. Can the slipcovers be dyed?
We do not recommend dying the slipcovers. Also, please be aware that if you make any alterations to the slipcovers, we cannot honor our guarantee.

12. Do the slipcovers shrink when they are washed?
Our slipcovers will have a small amount of shrinkage during the first few washings. The shrinkage amount is less than 5%. As long as your furniture falls within our standard measurements, this should not affect the fit of your slipcover.

13. How do I remove wrinkles?
To avoid wrinkles after laundering, just pull the cover out of the dryer once the cycle is complete and immediately place it on the furniture. If your cover gets wrinkled in storage, simply toss it in the dryer on low heat for ten minutes to remove the wrinkles. If the cover is wrinkled while on your furniture, try spraying a mist of water on the cover with a spray bottle and pressing out the wrinkles with your hand. (Do not tumble dry fabrics that have instructions to line dry.)

C. Size and Fit Questions

1. What sizes are available?
Sure Fit slipcovers are available in various sizes: Chair, Oversized Chair, Loveseat, Sofa, etc. Our unique one-piece design with elastic in all the right places allows the cover to fit many types and sizes of furniture. Choosing a size is easy-simply determine how many people can be comfortably seated on your furniture. If your furniture seats 1 person, we recommend a Chair size. If your furniture seats 2-3 people, we recommend a Loveseat size. If your furniture seats 3 or more people, we recommend a Sofa size. If you are measuring your furniture, simply measure from arm-to-arm and choose the correct size from our chart.

Size and Fit Chart

2. What types of furniture do your slipcovers fit?

Our slipcovers fit most upholstered furniture with arms. Some of our covers fit furniture with T-shaped seat cushions and square cushions, high arms and low arms, sofa beds and leather furniture - we even fit today's overstuffed styles with loose pillows. As a rule, our slipcovers DO NOT fit chaises, most sectionals, and loveseats or sofas with built-in recliners.

Styling Tips...

Wooden Arms - Wrap inexpensive polyester batting from a craft store on the arms to pad them. Secure with string or velcro. They will be completely hidden under your slipcover. Leather Furniture - We suggest that you cover the furniture with foam batting which can be found in craft stores. This helps prevent the cover from sliding on the slippery surface. Sofa Beds - Use your slipcover as you would on a regular sofa. You do have to remove the cover before opening up the bed.
Sectionals - If you have a two-piece sectional with arms at the ends, you can use slipcovers by fitting each piece with the appropriate size slipcover and tucking excess arm material in the crack where the two pieces come together.

3. Will slipcovers fit furniture with loose back pillows?
As long as your furniture measurements fall within our standard requirements, simply slip your cover right over the furniture and the pillows. You may have to adjust the pillows by overlapping them or removing a pillow or two depending on the look you want to achieve.

4. Will slipcovers fit sofa beds?
When closed, sofa beds are just like regular sofas. This means you can use Sure Fit slipcovers on a double or queen sized sofa bed. Simply refer to the size chart to determine what size cover you need. You must remove the cover to open the sofa bed. If you have a slipcover with a straight skirt design, you need only lift up the skirt in order to open the couch.

5. Will slipcovers fit Camel Back furniture?
Our slipcovers will fit camel back furniture as long as it falls within our standard measurements. The height measurement from the front of the sofa on the floor over the seat, up and over the back, and down to the floor again should measure 114" or less at the highest point. We recommend using our Stretch fabric products.

6. Will slipcovers fit chairs that are smaller than the standard measurements?
If your chair is smaller than our standard measurement of 32", you may still be able to use our slipcovers. The cover will be large but the more you tuck, the better it will stay in place. If the arms are too thin, you can use foam batting to stuff the arm under the slipcover.

7. Will slipcovers fit furniture with no arms?
Our Throw covers would work nicely for furniture with no arms. Throw Covers are unfitted without pre-sewn arms and are featured in our printed catalog and on our web site. If you are interested in receiving more information on our one piece slipcover, please call our toll free Customer Response number at 1-888-754-7166.

8. Will slipcovers fit an oversized sofa?
We do not manufacture covers for sofas over 96" long. We suggest that you use our large throw cover.

9. Will slipcovers fit a chaise lounge?
We do not manufacture slipcovers for chaise lounges and have no plans to make these in the near future.

10. Can I use slipcovers on leather furniture?
You can cover your leather sofa seat with foam batting underneath the slipcover to prevent the cover from sliding. This can be purchased at your local Wal-Mart or any craft store.

11. What is the depth of the one-piece slipcover?
The depth of the slipcover is 114" from the bottom of the front ruffle to the bottom of the back ruffle. Please be sure to measure your furniture at the highest point to insure a proper fit. Our Size and Fit Chart can help with your measurements.

12. How can I make my dining room chair covers fit better?
If you are covering a dining room chair with a thin or wood back, try draping batting, a folded blanket, or whatever you have available over the back before you put on the cover. This will give your chairs more of an upholstered or Parson's chair look.

13. What are the measurements for the dining room chair covers?
The measurements for our dining chair covers are as follows: from the top of the chair to bottom measures 41.5" high, 17" square seat depth area, 22" from seat to top, 18" front seat width, skirt length 17.5", ties on side are 3"x 33" and tie on the back.

14. Will the dining room chair covers fit any style dining room chair?
Our dining room chair slipcovers fit most types of chairs including Parsons, Chippendale, Queen Anne, Colonial, and Ladderback. Measure your chairs to insure fit. Our standard measurements are a maximum height of 41.5", seat width 18", and seat depth 17". Our dining room chair covers do not fit chairs with arms.

15. Will the recliner cover fit a straight arm recliner, with a right side handle, and separate footrest?
There are two recliner slipcover styles available.

16. Will slipcovers fit furniture with wooden arms?
Our slipcovers can be used on furniture with wooden arms. Wrap inexpensive polyester batting from a craft store on the arms to pad them before you put the cover on.

17. Can you tell me how to better tuck in my slipcover?
Save your fingers and try using a wooden spatula or spoon to tuck in excess fabric. Tuck the fabric deep into the crease where the arm meets the back of the furniture and down into where the arm meets the seat cushion.

18. Can I use slipcovers on sectionals?
Yes, we manufacture slipcovers for sectionals. View our sectional collection.
